Barack Obama has discussions with ex Vice President of the United States Al Gore about the future power source in our country. He also looks at the effects our current system is having on our country as well as the rest of the world.

  1. i think the topic of renewable energy is great, but some parts of it will always be met with controversy and criticism. for things like hydroelectric, geothermal and solar power, there are startup requirements such as the use of petrol to creat the equipment and parts needed to set up, but once established, these resources will be self-sustaining, and will eventually pay themselves off. On the other hand, the big issue is ethanol. i saw something on the discovery channel that was talking about its uses, positive effects, and drawbacks. i love the fact that it is definitely renewable, but its been pointed out many times, that it may take more petroleum and energy to produce ethanol in an pound for pound basis. corn is very nutrient hungry and the nitrogen fertilizers needed to grow it take lots of energy to produce. im interested to see how technology and our government are going to handle this topic in the future as the environment and amount of petroleum in the world becomes more of an issue.

on a side note, i like where they’re going with it, but ethanol sucks in some circumstances. in the marine environment, boats are having a hard time with fuel mileage and water build-up issues as ethanol is hydrophillic, and when boats are in storage, the gas can go bad if moisture gets into the fuel cells. this has happened a lot back at home for people i know.
